HP Wi-Fi Protected Set-up

Introduction

This page provides detailed step-by-step instructions for connecting HP printers that require a WPS pin for set-up.

This is the preferred method of connection for some newer HP models, notably the M28w.

While this new method of connecting a printer to a PC is relatively simple and straight-forward, this tends to add confusion

to the set-up process for people who haven't used these newer models.

You plug in and power on your new printer, add it to your PC by going to

Settings -> Devices -> Printers & Scanners -> Add Printer -> [Your-Printer-Name-Here] or

through the HP Smart software, and you will get a pop-up that looks like this:

What should happen normally is that a configuration page will print with a WPS pin code.

This is the code you use to finish the printer set-up.

After you add the pin to the blank text box, click next.

Then the printer should just install.
